The role of high schools and colleges in building Jamaica as a nation is often understated and as a result, much of the experience and historical content that formed the foundation for modern-day Jamaica is lost. The Jamaica College Foundation saw the need to place on record the efforts of dedicated persons, spanning two centuries, in building an iconic institution - Jamaica College. JC has provided the foundation for so many of its students to become leaders and professionals who have made a lasting contribution to building our nation. We acknowledge these unsung heroes with pride. Jamaica College: A Sugar Cane Planter's Legacy not only chronicles the lives of those who passed through Jamaica College's esteemed gates, but a substantial portion of the text is also dedicated to the school's achievements in sports. The book outlines the broader contribution of secondary education to the development of sport, enabling Jamaica to achieve its global position as a leader in athletics and other forms of sports.
